The Craig’s List Chronicals

CLC

Okay, so my sons are tired of me sitting at home every weekend, sleeping my afternoons away from boredom and depression. They think I need to find a friend my age…you know, to do things with, and maybe have a relationship.

Son #1: "You need to get out and meet people, Mom."

Me: "Like where am I going to do that? I'm not interested in the bar scene, and my knee is too fucked up for ballroom dancing."

Son #2: "What about the personals on Craig's list?"

Me: "Bitches, please."

So when they left I punched up Craig's List for my city. Didn't find anything that interested me, but I was sure as hell entertained for the rest of the evening, so it wasn't all bad. I had so much fun reading the ads…I howled, snorted, shuddered, eyerolled….LMAOed. I thought I'd share some of the good'uns. So is everybody who's my age and single…insane!? Am I insane? I'm going to keep an open mind, though. I'll keep reading them, if for no other reason than for entertainment value.

These are the real thing. I've cropped some that were novel length, but I haven't "edited" anything so to speak. My inner monologues, as I read these, are in purple.

#1. 58 and, just me 58

Hi, I,m Doug. Let me tell you little bit about myself. As you know, 58, and I've been married, more than once. I live on a farm with llamas in my front yard. I like my job, but wish I didn't have to work. But I do so life goes on. I enjoy going to the American Legion and the local Elks club. I like playing pool, country music is okay. I drink a few beers, but don't and never have smoked. But smoking doesn't offend me. What I'm looking for. Someone to hang out with, sit on the front porch and watch the llamas. Sex would be nice… (Alllllrighty then. Next)

#2. Hit the offer

This city is finally growing up. 1.7 million in the last census, and I would bet a lot closer to 2 million now. So…it seems like it shouldn't be that hard to find the right girl for a solid, lasting LTR. It's a partnership kind of thing, you see. (Okay..he seems well-spoken and analytical)

Here's the backstory:

The Consequence Unfolding

Misbehaviour in a snit,
Some passing fit of pique,
Draws scant acknowledgement,
perhaps goes unremarked,
but for the momentary gaze.
Sharing, then, the understanding
of events unfolding.

(Damn, he's not only well-spoken, he's a poet!)

In the quiet room
kneeling, you fold and
stretch out the ottomans length,
secure at wrist and knee,

(Woahhhh, hold up…)

#3. I am not your typical guy – 52

I am looking for a single female. I am 5'9", 165lbs, and divorced. I have no children living at home. I am a cat person, I have one. I do not use tobacco in any form, and I only drink maybe once a year. I ride a nice, quiet motorcycle and I like to play this outdoor game called Geocaching (google it). I am a carnivore. (cool, he won't mind that I'm a hunter and kill my own meat) The closest I have come in Christianity is the Quaker church. Non-violence – YEAH! (scratch that)  I don't like sports.

I hope to find someone to love so that I can enjoy my time on this planet. As it is, I just stay up late watching TV waiting for the end, ( wtf ) so I can find out what is on the other side. ( W.T.F. ) YOU can make ME hope that day never comes. (….Next)

#4. Unhappey at home, me too. – 45

Yes I am married, not wanting to change that right now, but would like to find older lady to chat with and see what happens, above 40 is a plus but whatever. If we just become good friends would be nice, cmplane about our spouses. LOL Hope ot hear from you great women out there. (I'm guessing his mother is deceased…Next)

#5. Do you like soft  gentle kisses?

Here is a little about myself. I am an avid golfer and sports nut but what guy isn't. I also love classic rock and roll such as the Beatles, Led Zepplin, The Doors, etc since I grew up listening to that kind of music and music really hasn't been the same since. I am very close to my family and family is very important to me. I have a lot of friends some of which go back to high school that I am also very close to. (Sounds like an sentimental, loyal kinda guy)

First of all I just turned 50 and believe it or not, I am not bothered by it. (Wait a minute, this is a dude talking, right?) In fact, most of my friends are surprised I made it. I actually look 10-12 years younger (or so I've been told) when I am not sporting my facial hair which is removed in the summer for that nice overall tan look. (lol, what?) I have been described as being very funny with a quick wit and sometimes off the wall sense of humor.

I would describe myself as an old-fashioned romantic who loves to cuddle and kiss that one special person softly all over. What ever happened to kissing anyway? I want to be able to look in your eyes and you know what I am feeling without me saying a word. I want to feel that when you look in my eyes. I want my heart to race whenever we are together and I want it to ache whenever we are apart. (Okay, this is either a post-op tranny or my cousin Bonnie is fuckin' around on the internet again) That someone special should be very passionate and spontaneous when it comes to the physical aspect of a relationship. I know I am and it would be great to have someone to share that with.

Courtesy of Billy Joel. I love this song.

She's got a way about her… (Sweet Jesus….Next)

#6. Intelligent white man seeks strong black woman – 47

Hello. I'm a white professional man with two advanced degrees and who has lived in Europe. I am 5 11 185lbs and in great shape (hittinig the gym 5 X a week). I have learned the brain is truly the biggest organ and I have learned to stop asking why and just enjoy what I enjoy. I love to role play and play a servant for a strong intelligent black women. I'll be glad to share more details if you are interested, but suffice it to say it will be all about you. Let's have a great summer and fall together. (Now, where did I put that shoe polish….?)

Watermelon smile

This is my submission for Monday Musee group. It's a photo taken a couple of years ago, but by the time I applied all the different image editing and touch-ups to it, it turned out to be more of a painting. I know it took much longer to get to this point than it did to take the picture, lol.

I hope it's considerd "art" of some form anyway. I want to try the flower thing — that looks like fun, but I got hung up on several phone calls this evening, and had no free time to actually play. I promise to start earlier next time so I will be ready for Monday!

Elements II

Hello folks! This is my first doodling to share. I'm not too convinced it passes as art, but it was surprisingly fun to do. here's a LINK that shows the picture as it's being painted, and here's my finished product. I know, I know…it looks like kindergarten, but I enjoyed kindergarten so it's all good, lol!

I can't wait to see everyone else's in the Monday Musee group!

Urban wildlife…a little green surprise.

One of these days I will get the vacation pics off the camera, but things just keep happening, and I can't catch up. It's not all bad things — just very busy things. I have lots to share with my fellow Voxers. This just happened today, and since it doesn't take much to please me, I was tickled to get these photos. They were taken at 12x zoom (I also have some video I may post later, but I loved the way these came out so much that I can't choose from them. I'm going to post them all.

First off, I want to post a pic of the front of my house the first summer I lived here (2006). There was nothing planted in the front flower beds. The first thing I did was buy 2 ferns for the porch posts, then I went out and got 2 large hostas and 27 tiny little ivy plants because this area doesn't get all-day sun — it faces north. The bed around the flag pole only had a weed growing in it so I later planted coneflowers. I also planted a globe arborvitae to the left of the steps. Here's how it looked before the plants went in:

As you can see, it was very plain (it almost looks better than now because it's so uncluttered, lol).

Here it is today, 2 years later. I'm going to have to rein in the ivy:

Please ignore the Staples box and the dog crates. I've been hauling things with the Jeep and they had to come out for a while.

Anyway, I took the day off today…the first day in over a year and a half that wasn't a scheduled vacation day. I needed to get some personal business done, and it's impossible to do over a lunch hour when you live in one county and work in another. I was enjoying my morning coffee in one of the white rockers at the end of the porch and this little green surprise caught my eye. He stayed long enough for me to grab the camera, but I didn't dare walk up on him, hence the photos being taken at 12x zoom. I had no idea looking thru a sun-soaked viewfinder what i was actually getting. I just pointed the camera and hoped for the best. I'm thrilled they came out so clear. If you see one you particularly like, click on it, and then click on the "see full size" icon. I hope you enjoy:

And the rest of my day went really well, too, but this little green fella was a great start! I should take a day off more often!

Dog Haiku

(There are lots of versions of this around the net, but this is my favorite.)

DOG HAIKU

I lie belly-up

In the sunshine, happier than

You ever will be.

Today I sniffed

Many dog behinds – I celebrate

By kissing your face.

I sound the alarm!

Paper boy – come to kill us all!

Look! Look! Look! Look! Look!

I sound the alarm!

Garbage man – come to kill us all!

Look! Look! Look! Look! Look!

I lift my leg and

Whiz on each bush . Hello, Spot –

Sniff this and weep.

I Hate my choke chain –

Look, world, they strangle me!

Ack Ack Ack Ack Ack Ack!

The cat is not all

Bad – she fills the litter box

With Tootsie Rolls

My human is home!

I am so ecstatic I have

Made a puddle.

Look in my eyes and

Deny it. No human could

Love you as much I do.

My owners' moods are

Romantic – I lie near their

Feet. I fart a big one.

Dolly Hogs the Chews

This is one of the things that tickle me about dogs. I could never tire or not be entertained by them — even if it's just their back yard interaction (which is about all they get in the heat of summer). DOLLY is the matriarch, and pretty much the boss of the yard. She's 11-1/2 years old, and the mother of the three in Canada and the two I have here, Willy and Libby. Clem is the daddy and he's here with me also.

Yesterday I had some extra kennel duties to perform; they needed new tarps over their kennels, the old ones had gotten raggedy and didn't provide much shade or weather protection. I like for the dogs to be able to come out of their boxes and onto the wire to eat or lounge regardless of the weather, so I tarp the top of the caged area. I had buckets to scrub, etc. so I let them down in the yard for an extended play time while I performed these chores.

I thought since they were down, they might enjoy having some rawhide chews to gnaw on while they rolled in the grass. I threw 6 chews down (one for each dog and a couple of extras if someone got greedy and took someone else's). Here's how well that worked:

HEEE!!!! Count them. Dolly is chewing one and holding court over the other FIVE. She has them placed neatly around her in a semi-circle so she can see if another dog tries to take one. To give you a perspective of how this looks:

Too funny. She eventually decided which one she wanted for herself and walked away from the others, which were quickly snapped up by Willy and Libby. Clem couldn't care less about them. He just looks around for something new to hike on. Here are some other pics:

Clem's like, "Whatever. Keep me out of y'all's drama.

That's my dog report for the weekend. I'm having a barbeque with my sons and their friends later today. One son lives with me, the other owns a house about 100 paces from mine. Good food, booze, music, and plenty of laughter. I'm glad we have understanding neighbors. I hope Grandson Sam is there. I haven't seen the little fart in a couple of weeks and I bought him a new fishing pole — master fisherman that he is.

I'll be back later tonight; y'all have a great Sunday!

Little by little

I'll get my vacation story told. My feet haven't stopped running since I got back. Working through the week and away on the weekends. Looks like this weekend coming up will be the first one home since June 30.

Here's my set-up picture. (I took this pic almost 2 years ago and named the dogs at that time.) 7 puppies that were born August 16, 2006. Of the 7, two went to strictly hunters, two are with me, and three are up in Canada with Mr. U. The ones that are in Canada are the ones I got to see run.

I will be back later to edit this post and add pictures of the three the way they look now. I'm so very proud of them!

Okay so I'm back with some pics of three of these pups now big, strong, grown dogs in competition. I was thrilled to see how far Patch (Apache), Biggun (Big Gun), and Moe (Mohawk) had come on my trip north. Mr. U has done great things wth them. I still have two of their littermates, Willy and Libby, here with me. Most of these pictures were taken when they were on the tie-out waiting their turn to run because….it's hard to get good pics when they are jetting through the woods, lol. Can you recognize them from their baby picture?

FREEDOM RUN CLEM'S APACHE (he sits up and begs naturally — just like his mother/dam does):

FREEDOM RUN CLEM'S BIG GUN

FREEDOM RUN CLEM'S MOHAWK

I am so biased it isn't funny, but I think they are beautiful and talented, and it was certainly the highlight of my trip to see them, and see them in action…even as much as I loved the cruise of the river, which I'll get back to later.

Me home – Part 2

There may be 19 parts to this getting home business. I can't believe how being gone for one week can set a person behind by a month. What gives with that?

In any event, here's where the deer reside:

…on top of a garden archway, on the path to this modest little children's playhouse that doubled as a clockhouse:

…which belonged to the main house:

(picture above taken from the boat)

(picture below taken from the grounds)

(a closer view)

And of course, every 1000 Islands home needs a boathouse…

Mr. U took a pic of me atop the castle — just to prove I actually went. That's the downside of always being the photographer…

Boldt Castle was the end point for this particular St. Lawrence River cruise. I'd seen Boldt Castle from a distance — from the American side of the river in Alexandria Bay. I have a picture of it that I took (on 12 zoom) in the winter (with the foliage down) from A-Bay the first time I saw it. It truly is a magnificent structure. You can see it a couple of posts down. George C. Boldt had a surprise and a half for his wife had it ever gotten finished. Sadly Louise died in 1904 before it could be completed, and a heartbroken George ordered all construction to cease.

They weren't kidding. It's as if everyone put their mortar down, laid their hammers down, and left. As much work as the 1000 Islands Bridge Authority has put into restoring this structure, that much and more still needs to be done to complete it. I will post some pics of the inside later. There are areas of the 120-room castle that are finished for the most part — right down to books in the library and china in the cabinets, but there are also very raw and crude areas where the blocks and exterior stone hadn't even been plastered from the inside yet. The children's playhouse had a duckpin bowling lane in progress.

As nice as seeing Boldt Castle was, it still doesn't compare, IMO to the beauty of simply being on that river. Next post on the subject I will share some sights and sounds of the river itself…and even some wildlife that's kinda sweet. Real wildlife, not statues. *winks*

Me home

I made it back from a wonderful, fun-filled vacation…no phones, no computer, no TV. From Indy, thru Detroit, to New York, into Canada, back to New York, over to Massachusetts, New Hampshire then into Maine…then reverse the trip exactly. Only twice over the whole week did I want to hold Mr. U's head under water until the bubbles quit. All-in-all, we had a really good time, visited with a lot of friends, and I got some fairly good pics.

The St. L. River day cruise was simply more than the eyes could take in. It was 360 degrees of eye-feast. I have 2 gigs of pics and video to off-load, so I will write more as I get more photos to go with the recount, but I've started with this one:

You will be surprised to find out where these deer actually reside. More later.

Off to visit my neighbor's blogs!
